In Zambia, the project focuses on improving the marketing side of the honey value chain.
The medium-term objective is to enable Zambian honey to gain a firm foothold in export markets.
International Trade Centre (ITC) works in close partnership with the Zambia Development Agency to implement and coordinate the project. Sector development work is done with the AgriBusiness Forum and Zambia Honey Council as well as the Zambia Bureau of Standards. Current project activities include updating the Zambia honey sector strategy; upgrading the ability of honey processors to meet international quality standards on food security; increasing organic production and traceability of output; developing packaging, branding and international marketing; and enhancing the services offered to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the honey sector. This project complements current work done by the Enhanced Integrated Framework (EIF) Tier II project on improving supply conditions for honey.
